The redevelopment of 32 Oxford Terrace in Christchurch highlights our ability to deliver innovative and effective engineering solutions in complex conditions. Following the Christchurch earthquakes, this project presented an opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in designing resilient, cost-effective structures that meet the highest standards of functionality and safety. The result is a 5,500-square-meter A-grade office space positioned above 1,300 square meters of retail, combining modern design with structural excellence.

To address the challenges of a damaged and uneven foundation, we implemented a comprehensive solution that included re-leveling the base and strengthening the existing framework with additional structural steel. The integration of buckling restrained braces (BRBs) was a key element, enhancing the building’s seismic performance while ensuring long-term durability and safety.

One of the standout features of the project is the floating office wings, supported by struts. This design choice not only created additional usable floor space but also delivered a distinctive architectural element. Our engineering approach ensured these features achieved both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

The successful completion of 32 Oxford Terrace underscores our ability to provide tailored solutions that exceed client expectations. This building is not only a symbol of Christchurch’s recovery but also a testament to the value of innovative and thoughtful engineering in shaping the future of urban development.
